Cast your Burden unto the Lord

Thank you for taking the time out to nourish your spirit with our Wednesday Bible study. The Lord placed on my heart something I’ve struggled with and make a conscious effort to work on. The Lord encourages us to cast our burdens unto him, yet I had a habit in believing I have to carry my burdens alone. Today we are studying Psalm 55:22

                                                                      Scripture

Psalm 55:22 KJV: Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.

                                                                    Lets Explore

Just as Scripture advises, we are to cast our cares unto the Lord, but how many times have we casted our cares unto ourselves or people before coming to the Lord? Many of us have adopted this mentality that we must go through life alone. We have to handle and figure things out on our own, because no one will understand. There’s also moments of vulnerability and at times desperation, in which we select a lucky person to cast our burdens onto as well. On the flip side, we may have been on the receiving end where others have given us their burdens resulting in us feeling overwhelmed. These are just a few scenarios in which we have bypassed the Lord’s instructions because we believe we have everything under control. How did that turn out for you? God does not encourage us to figure it out on our own. How considerate is He to essentially say “Hey I care about you and love you, whatever is on your mind, whatever you are concerned or worried about, it’s not too heavy for Me. Share it with me so I can guide you or take it into My own hands. I want to provide you with peace and relief.” Imagine that. Sometimes we make our lives harder than it needs to be. When we truly pour our hearts to God, we should experience peace and relief knowing our Heavenly Father has our best interest at heart. He is in control not us. He will make a way where there is no way, just for us! How amazing is He? He is our protector and provider there is nothing to big or small for Him. As followers of Christ, we have to get out of the habit of believing we have to do everything by ourselves. When we resort into that mentality, we tend to have a harder time hearing God’s will for us. We are blessed with a good Father. Of course I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention Paul’s instruction in Galatians 6:2-5 where he says “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. For if anyone thinks himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself. But let each one examine his own work, and then he will have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another. For each one shall bear his own load.” This does not contradict Psalm 55:22, rather it encourages us to have discernment in when to cast our burdens and to whom. Sometimes God places on our hearts to be a burden bearer for someone else or for use to allow them to become a bearer of our burdens. This is what a community of believers should comprise of. There may also be times where we must bear our own burdens, but we must not leave God out of the picture. Ultimately, we must discern whether we are being more self-inflicting than helpful in taking the other routes. Regardless of the route we take, the Lord should be our primary source of who we depend on for guidance.

Reflection

  • Based on today’s study, what is a care (or cares) that you’ve been avoiding to cast upon the Lord?
  • Take time to list down burdens/cares you are carrying on the left hand side of a sheet of paper. Next write the Lord’s name on the right side of the same sheet of paper. Draw an arrow from each care you have and have all arrows direct to the Lord. This is a visual representation of how we should cast each care to the Lord.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, we thank you for each person reading this Bible Study. Lord God, we thank you for being our safe place where we can cast our cares unto you. Heavenly Father we pray you remind us that You are indeed here for us and always a listening ear for our troubles. You encourage us to not only cast our cares unto you, but to other fellow believers when appropriate. Thank you for not allowing us to go through life alone. Thank you for giving us peace and strength in this world. Thank you for pouring into us and loving us unconditionally. Let us worship you, because you are a Good-Good Father. We release the spirit of stress, anxiety, worrying, depression and so on because it is not of you. Lord we know we are in good hands because you are our heavenly Father and we thank you for keeping us in these times. We release our cares and burdens at your feet Lord God and we thank you for relieving us of these things.

In Yeshua’s Mighty Name, we pray Amen.

With Love,

Allison
